I went undercover at the local grocery store (as that really tall white guy) and snapped these pictures with my phone (with a really loud CLICK CLICK!). Sometimes the price of fruit can get crazy. Famous this, famous that, from a famous place, etc etc. I’ve eaten some of these grapes and they are THE BEST grapes ever to exist! You’re probably laughing, or going “what-ev” but I’m for real. Are they worth $18? Well… only if I get or give it as a gift, or a once a year purchase. I never knew that grapes could taste this good.
I haven’t eaten any melons yet, but I think I’d save myself $20, I mean 2000 Yen, and take the melon on the left!

I live in Nagano (famous for grapes) and often find the prices of fruits ludicrous. As soon as I taste them though my opinion changes. They are the best! During fall prices of fruits like apples, and grapes start to decline. This is because they are harvested during August, September, and October. If you ever have the opportunity to come to Nagano, don’t miss the chance to buy some grapes from the small cultivators found through out the prefecture.

In Sasebo, where i used to walk around, there was a small grocery and you can see it on Google Maps, which makes me warm inside, used to have the most sweetest most de-lish apples and pears ever.
Those grapes look super. I used to use the Apples as Gifts. i think they were 200Y each, but I could be wrong.
Yeah…when my mom was here…she’d go….”how much is that melon…in dollars”? I’d hum and haw and go….about 50 bucks…and she’d look at me with her eyes as big as saucers!!! Yep…. Know what you mean! LOL
David – 200 Yen for apples… wow… a year ago I was saying “What the…?” but now I’m down with that price because they are really really good. I’d rather have one of those apples instead of 3 average tasting apples.
Jyankee – I can imagine her reaction! Huge eyes, jaw dropping. I wonder what will happen when I see cheaper fruits and veggies in the U.S. I’d probably feel like everything is on sale.
YEN always seemed like FUNNY MONEY too when I lived there. I knew how to convert it but sometimes it was best to not convert it and just pay. While the fruit was expensive, I purchased a Honda City Turbo with 3 years of the insurance for $1200 USD…..go figure.
Haha, I know what you mean David! I see cars for sale that are bad ass but really cheap and I don’t get it. Some things are way over priced, others way under priced compared to what you can buy in the US.

On the other side, the cars here, are way to expensive, 2 or 3 times the price in EEUU!. It is not possible to have it all.
