Pizza in Japan is usually quite a bit different from the American version. Here they put some crazy things on pizza like shrimp, squid, tuna, mayonnaise, sesame seeds, teriyaki chicken, corn, potatoes, and sometimes mustard. Oh yeah and sausage. Not the sausage you might be thinking, but more like the Super Bowl Sunday little smokies. Also the prices can get insane. A pizza for two people can easily cost around $25 USD. At least you don’t have to tip the delivery person which is a plus. Here’s a menu from Pizza LA. So far I’ve found pizza most like the ones you can get in the U.S. at Costco and Dominos. Costco doesn’t deliver and they are located about 1 million miles from me.

I’ve tried a few pizzas so far in Japan. Although the normal Japanese pizza toppings sounded a bit wrong to me at first, the pizzas taste ok. It’s not as satisfying to me as the ‘Itallian Style” and I’d rate the flavor average. I’m sure that rating will go up the longer I’m here as I adapt more and more to a seafood type diet.
Can you imagine if the role was reversed though? Here I can get toppings similar to back in the U.S. but in American a Japanese person is pretty screwed. You can’t normally get squid, octopus, etc on your pizza in the U.S. so they’re stuck with pizza they’re not really used to.

One of our favorite pizzas is buffalo chicken wing pizza. I but you can’t find that over there.
wow~ looks so delicious! Japanese people are really very creative~ haha~ I want to try them out though it’s quite expensive…
@Barron: Mayo on pizza… I thought it was going to be so gross when I heard about it but it’s pretty good. My fiancee makes some amazing pizza and I had no idea she put mayo on it.
@Ed: I haven’t found that yet! But I’ve found more crazy things recently including eggs. I’m keeping an eye out though.
@HT: Even with the coupons it’s still expensive which is pretty unbelievable. Instead of spending $30 on a pizza you can eat a 5 course meal.
