Fish at the Grocery Store

It feels like half the grocery store is dedicated to fish. And the price is always right in Japan!

Egg stuffed fish... I stay away from this. I don't like the exploding eggs when you chew it.

Tiny fish, great for a yakitori style dinner. Slap it on a stick, grill it, eat it just like that.

Now let’s work on getting some Chicago style pizza cookin’ in the bakery Mr. Grocery Store! If they had a suggestion box I’d be dropping notes every day. Non-seafood-non-mayo pizza, big steak, some Diet Dr. Pepper please and thank you.

Looks like a bargain.. and yeah… I wouldn’t want to eat the fish and have all the fish eggs burst in my mouth….ick…

JYankee - I find it pretty amazing that these usually all get sold out. By the end of the day the 1st picture area is empty.

When we go grocery shopping at the end of the week the usual bill for fish is around 5000 yen. Usually buy salmon fillets exclusively. I find it curious how fish is not cleared of its insides before being sold to the general public; except for salmon and flounder.

Heh, I am not big on cooking, but I love to eat fish. The supermarket I go to also has fish really cheap.

If I had a grill, I would probably pick up these fish and grill them, but because I don’t know how to cook anything other than eggs, I can’t buy these delicious-looking fish. :(

Yoshihiro - Really? You’re buying insides and all? Whoa! I haven’t bought fish in Japan yet so that sounds so strange. Sounds gross.

Alex - Sounds to me like you need to save up for a grill!
