Founded in 2005 by producer Yasushi Akimoto, AKB48 is one of the highest grossing music groups in the world. In 2011 they made over $200 Million USD in CD, MP3 Downloads, and DVD sales. The group started with 20 girls and at one time grew up to 90 female members. To celebrate Japanese pop culture, 16 members will be performing at the Cherry Blossom Festival on March 27 in Washington D.C.

They would have to be the most popular girl group in Japan and are just about to release their first television anime series
It makes me wonder how much each member makes compared to the company.
An educated guess would think that most of it goes to the company and the girls themselves are just making enough for a comfortable living. Would love to see how they actually split the money
